The President of EUROCHAMBRES*, Dr Christoph Leitl, will lead a high-level delegation to the United States with an objective to meet key stakeholders and to stress the importance of EU-US transatlantic economic relationship. He will stress the importance of transatlantic relations to the joint economic fabric, on which 14 million people on both sides currently rely on; and address the need for both the US and the European Union to overcome the skills gap that our business communities are fascinating. President Leitl will outline paths for EU-US cooperation taking the successful European model of the dual educational system and the role of Chambers as an example.
The EU-US trade relationship is the most important trade and investment relationship in the world. President Leitl will reiterate the importance for Europeans and Americans to cooperate, particularly in the current period of economic slowdown, and to boost bilateral trade and investment flows. At the same time, as a new European Leadership takes office in November, EUROCHAMBRES’ President will emphasise the strategic importance for the EU and USA decision-makers to work together with the view to address common challenges, such as those posed by state capitalism. Preserving and reforming multilateral economic institutions such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO), that have been built together by the EU and the USA, and that have underpinned the growth of the global economy, is an important objective for both sides to work on together.
*EUROCHAMBRES is the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which through its 43 national Chamber associations and a network of over 1700 regional and local Chambers of Commerce, represents over 22 million businesses in Europe.
