With the support of the Commission, healthcare stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies and universities, have established a large-scale skills partnership. This partnership will increase training in this area in Europe, which is essential for the EU’s industrial and social prosperity. This sector faces significant skills and labor shortages, which are expected to intensify with the growing demand for healthcare products and services, driven by Europe’s aging population. This new partnership covering the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and personal protective equipment complements the existing healthcare skills partnership covering medical services.

The ambition of the partnership is to establish a common model of skills development, particularly in the current context of ecological and digital transformations, by pooling knowledge, experiences and resources. The aim is to facilitate professional upskilling and reskilling initiatives across the healthcare sector, as well as promote apprenticeship opportunities and on-the-job training. Concrete skills needs that will be addressed include adapting to technological advances, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, as well as supply chain, inventory and inventory management. the distribution.

In addition, the partnership will focus on strengthening strategic monitoring of the sector’s skills needs and monitoring new training programs aligned with the identified skills needs. It will also contribute to the development of a skills strategy for the European health sector.

The Skills Pact is one of the flagship initiatives of the European Skills Strategy . It aims to mobilize resources and incentivize all relevant partners to take concrete steps to upskill and reskill the workforce in key industrial ecosystems. To date, the pact has trained more than 2 million workers, with 15,500 training programs updated or expanded and 160 million euros invested by pact members in training programs. It also contributes to the European Year of Skills and the EU’s headline target that by 2030 at least 60% of all adults should take part in training each year.
