Executive training programme for executives across Europe
The Executive Training Programme (ETP) is one of the most successful programmes of the European Union in Japan and Korea. Under the ETP European business men and woman have undergone intensive language and on the job training to familarise themselves with Japanese and Korean business culture.
The ETP started in Japan more than a quarter of a century ago. Encouraged by the success in Japan, the European Commission expended it to also cover Korea since 2002. The programme is managed by the European Commission and promoted by EUROCHAMBRES and its network of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Europe.
In the Foreword of ETP 2006-2007, European Commissioner for External Relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, notes that: ,To date, nearly 1000 European managers have graduated from the ETP programmes combined. The ETP alumni represent a vital resource for European business in both Japan and Korea.
In order to maintain and build on the very positive results of the ETP, the European Commission is reforming the programme in 2006 to respond better to the rapidly changing demands in today’s business world. The language programme is now more compact, an EU training component has been added and internationally recognised universities in the European Union, Japan and Korea have been chosen to deliver high-quality training to the participants.
Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner: ‘I am confident that the new ETP will be a key instrument for European business to take advantage of the continuing trade and investment opportunities offered in Japan and Korea in the year to come.
ETP Japan and Korea 2006-07 has been designed by a consortium of internationally recognised universities led by Sciences Po (Paris). Two other European universities are co-operating in the programme, University of London (School of Oriental and African Studies) and University of Milan (SDA Bocconi School of Management), as well as two East-Asian universities, Waseda (Tokyo) and Yonsei (Seoul).
‘The ETP programmes for Japan and Korea represent an invaluable opportunity for executives across Europe to acquire and develop the necessary knowledge and skills which will allow them to undertake top management jobs involving either of the these countries. We are not only honoured but also extremely excited to be taken part in such a noteworthy endeavour initiated by the European Commission’, said Dr. Richard Descoing, Administrator of Sciences Po.
The ETP programme will enable the participants to communicate differently, to understand a new business culture and to successfully develop your business in Japan or Korea after:
• 3 months of distance learning of Korean or Japanese and seminar on business culture organised in Paris, Milan and London while participants are still working for their employer;
• 6 months of advanced language and business culture training in Japan or Korea;
• 3 months of in-house training in Japan or Korea-based companies.
European Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner: I invite European companies to use the ETP programme to strengthen their business presence in the East Asian region by sending their executives to participate in the training offered by ETP’.
